“In order to reach every man, you have to become every man.”
| Biography |
Born and raised in Northeast Philadelphia, to a poet mother and a background vocalist father who was offered to sing alongside the legendary and vocally powerful Patti LaBelle, hip hop artist Somes born Yahanna Lewis is no stranger himself to opening for major acts like Rakim, Eddy Baker, Xavier Wulf and Smif-N-Wessun. An early 90’s hip hop enthusiast, Somes was tightly influenced by lyrical pioneers like Wu-Tang clan, Method Man, Tupac Shakur and Ice Cube who often used their music to shed tremendous light on topics like police brutality against people of color that rippled the 90’s era. With little to no positive extracurricular activities due to low funding in schools growing up, hip hop music was Somes gateway to help him face the harsh realities surrounding his community and loved ones.
Today Somes is using his musical platform to help elevate and open the minds of his listeners through his revolutionary word play and versatile flow of real-life experiences and historic accolades relating to generations of music lovers. “In order to reach every man, you have to become every man” is his take on 1Corinthians 9:19-23 and words Somes strongly stands by when its come to his life and music. When not rhyming, Somes goes by the producer name Somes Sounds, crafting his talent from front to back by self producing his own projects with a unique ear for discovering new samples that can work with a variety of genres. His mixture of 90’s and modern beats brings out the soul and essence of hip hop that the industry is missing. In the year 2017 Somes released his first project titled "All Aboard The Soulful Experience" followed by "The Kedar LP", and later release "Not Yah Average Nigga". Somes is currently working on his fourth project, titled “YAHANNA” that is set to drop March 2018.
